One of the many busy spiders created after hearing Eric Carle's story: The Very Busy Spider. |
On Friday, October 30th the Kindergartners in room 19 celebrated.... spiders! It was a fun day of learning and laughing.
The day began with students dressed as fabulous storybook characters. We saw witches, Snow White, Tinkerbelle, gymnastics girls and more! All the students recognized their teacher dressed as Pete the Cat with his four groovy buttons!
Students created a math counting book full of spiders. The book uses the vocabulary word spider as well as their newly learned heart words: I, see. This book will be one of many that students can practice reading to you at home. Familiarity with the words will help build their confidence.
We all heard the fantastic book: The Very Busy Spider written by the great children's book author, Eric Carle. The students enjoy the repetition and love to see how her spider web grows on each page. Students immediately got very busy themselves creating their own spider. We strengthened our tracing, cutting, coloring and gluing skills.
After time for recess, lunch and free choice, students looked at a non-fiction book filled with spider facts. We practiced using our sophisticated vocabulary saying arachnid for spider! We learned that all spiders have eight legs and even eight eyes! They can live in many cool places.
Our final piece to the celebration were our delicious spider treats complete with soft spider body and crunchy spider legs!
One of the tasty spiders we dared to eat on Friday! |
